Introductory Letter - 1 Dec 07

Dear Parent
We are pleased to announce that next year we hope to produce the eighth Kesgrave Kapers, on 15/16 March 2006. The Kapers is a show produced by the Scouts and Guides in Kesgrave. For those of you who are old hands at the Kapers then the format will be familiar but for those of you who are new to the sections I will try to explain some of the procedures to try and avoid confusion.

The show is open to all members of the Scout and Guide sections but we do not expect every child to take part. It is entirely voluntary. Each child will take part in an item with their own section and the opening and closing songs. In addition the Rainbows, Beavers, Brownies and Cubs join together to perform an item altogether and the Guides and Scouts, Explorers and Rangers will perform another item.

Rehearsals will take place every Sunday afternoon starting on 6 January, in the Scout Hall 2-5pm. Your child will only be expected to attend at certain times when we are rehearsing their bit. Section leaders will tell you when to attend, but for the first two rehearsals times are as follows as they start before many sections return next term:

We will need help from parents to help with supervision at rehearsals and particularly backstage during performances. If you could help and have a particular skill (Make up, Scenery, Costume making etc) please let us know or look out for rotas at rehearsals. It would also be very helpful to have someone who is prepared to do refreshments at rehearsals.

We are holding a competition to design a logo for the show. We would like a simple picture to capture the spirit of the show. The logo will be used on posters, tickets and programme so it should look good big and small. The closing date will be the 27th January.

We normally take photographs of the show and produce a video/DVD, which is usually very popular, and we sell lots of copies. We intend to do this again this year. If any parent is not prepared to allow their child to be photographed or appear in the video then please will they contact their section leader or myself.

The show has always been a great success and involves a lot of hard work but we all have a lot of fun. We need the commitment of the children to attend rehearsals whenever possible, especially during the week leading up to the show. We will try to keep you informed about rehearsal times and dates as early as possible. If you have any queries please contact either your section leader or me.
