Access on foot to the Scout HQ is possible from the public car park adjacent to Tesco and the shopping parade. Vehicular access is only possible via Twelve Acre Approach.
District Cooking Competition Rules and Information
- Please can each troop contact * (ADC Scouts) tel: * with team numbers by Thursday 24th January (so that we can get everything ready).
- Teams must consist of either 3 or 4 Scouts.
- Teams will decide on a time at which their meal should be ready for judging at the start of the event (this will allow for approx 90 minutes preparation time) - judges will attend teams who are on time in preference to those who are not.
- Each team must provide its own cooking facilities consisting of no more than two burners, together with a table covering and any decorations.
- Crockery, cutlery and glasses will be provided, but teams will need to bring their own pots, pans kitchen tools and tea towels.
- All food items will be provided at the start of the competition. Teams will be expected to prepare a 3 course meal from the ingredients provided. The main course must be served hot - the other courses may be served either hot or cold and will require some preparation.
- There will be recipe ideas provided at the event which will take into account the ingredients provided. These are provided for information only, teams are able to prepare any dish they like with the ingredients provided.
- Teams will be given time to plan their menu before cooking commences.
- Each team is responsible for cleaning up its own area and equipment.
- Teams will be supplied with two tables, one for preparation, the other for serving the meal.
- Teams must prepare four servings of each course. Scouts are expected to eat their meals! If there are 4 people in a team you will be asked to leave a little extra aside for judging purposes.
- Leaders and parents are very welcome to attend but should avoid coaching their teams. NB there is no requirement for leaders from every Troop to attend as there will be other leaders in attendance.
- The following breakdown will be used for marking the competition:
- Balance & nutritional value of menu: 10 marks
- Planning & preparation of food: 25 marks
- Hygiene (including clearing & washing up!): 10 marks
- Serving up on time: 5 marks
- Presentation: 25 marks
- Taste: 25 marks
