Youth Club Closure
As part of Suffolk County Councils funding cutbacks and New Strategic Direction, Kesgrave Youth Club closed on 23 May 11.
The Kesgrave and District Youth Forum have set up a Support Group (Kesgrave Youth Centre Support Group) to run Tuesday and Thursday sessions.
This work is supported by Kesgrave Town Council and All Saints Church are providing paid youth workers to run the sessions together with volunteers.
Funding is currently in place to continue until at least July 2011.
Hopefully a lease will be obtained from Suffolk County Council to run the Youth Centre until the summer of 2014 when the building is likely to be demolished to make way for an extension of the High School to cater for the 200 new places added to Heath School in 2011.
In the mean time the Support Group will look at options, including incorporating Youth Centre facilities into the new High School extension, to provide a Youth Centre beyond 2014. However land is a premium in Kesgrave and options are very limited.
