Reading Challenge

Since 2005 the Local Library usually runs a reading challenge over the summer holidays. The first year it was called Reading Rollercoaster. The following year there is a nautical theme, where everyone who registered was given their own personal Ship’s Reading Log, packed with puzzles and challenges to complete.
Basically children of any age can join in, even the very young can take part, as mums, dads and others can help as much as they like. All they have to do is choose any book from the library, read it and talk about it when they bring it back. They will be given a sheet of stickers to go in their Reading Log for every book they read, and there is also bookmarks, fortune-tellers and activity sheets to collect along the way. At the end of the summer holiday, those who have read six books will be given a medal and certificate at a special presentation ceremony. It runs from around 24th July to the 4th September and you can register in advance in mid July.
