Several articles were written in Kesgrave News in 2009 about the opportunity for residents to volunteer to take part in Speedwatch. Volunteers would have been trained to use a gun which records the speed of vehicles and the information they collected would have then been passed to the local police to locate areas where they could then measure the speed of vehicles and deal with drivers appropriately.

Despite the articles very minimal response was received and the three parishes of Kesgrave, Rushmere St Andrew and Martlesham, who were to have set up a joint scheme, all decided not to embark on this venture.
